Things to do on the Fraser Coast

A small section of the model railway village

A hidden gem on the Fraser Coast is M & K MODEL RAILWAYS – Located at the corner of Old Maryborough Road and Hastings Street in Pialba, this is a real treat for the youngsters and people of all ages.  This husband and wife team have spent years transforming their house into a railway yard with memorabilia packed to the ceiling and a real train going around the garden.

It is an enjoyable experience and very cost friendly, adults $10, pensioners, concession card holders & children 3-14 are $8 – family pass 2 adults + 2 children $32, a further discount of $4 for a family of 4 and children under 3 are free with complimentary tea/coffee, cordial and biscuits.  Correct as at 25 Oct 2022.

Come and say hi to Mal & Karin

Reefworld Aquarium opened in 1979 and continues to entertain visitors with turtle feeding at 11am and reef fish at 2.30pm.  They are open 9.30am to 4pm 7 days a week.  Come in and say hi to this family owned business.

The Aquarium was designed to be a natural display bringing the water in from the bay through sand filters and using natural light above the tanks to produce lights.  All the coral on display are from the waters of Hervey Bay.

The Wolff family purchased the aquarium in 1989 and have been through 3 major floods in that time.  They have rebuilt many displays and strive to continue displaying the beauty of our Bay to visitors of all ages.

I took my grandson there and they and he enjoyed feeding the turtles.

Reefworld Aquarium - turtle feeding

The Waterfront Restaurant is situated right next to the Aquarium and is a great place to stop in for a coffee or breakfast.  They are only open for breakfast and lunch from Wednesday to Sunday.

The views over the water are spectacular.  A great place to host a function.

We love going there with the family and the food is always good.

After a walk along the Urangan Beach from the jetty with Rosie – they bring out a bowl of water for her, we relax and enjoy a lovely breakfast.

Pictured is Liz enjoying herself after a morning walk.

A great way to start the day or enjoy lunch after feeding the turtles at the Aquarium.  Another hidden gem on the Fraser Coast.

Another recent trip to Enzos on the Beach with the grandsons didn’t disappoint.

With the spectacular views and relaxed atmosphere you could forgive yourself for thinking you are overseas somewhere.

We love to take visitors to Enzos just so they can be wowed at this waterfront location.

We have so many great places to eat on the Fraser Coast and this is just one of them.  They are also dog friendly.

Our favourite dog friendly beach on the Fraser Coast is Dundowran Beach.

Depending on the tide will depend on how much beach there is.  If you visit on low tide there is about 1km walk out to the water to swim.

Rosie absolutely loves going to Dundowran Beach and it is well worth the drive.  It never disappoints.

The sunsets are spectacular and if we want to really relax, this is our go-to place.

Another hidden gem on the Fraser Coast.

There are so many dog friendly beaches on the Fraser Coast and we love taking Rosie out for a run and a swim.

We have a lovely cafe at the River Heads shops called the River Heads Cafe.

Our favourite lunch is calamari and chips, always cooked to perfection with an iced coffee.

The views over the Mary & Susan River never disappoint, even when it’s raining.  We love supporting our local businesses and hope that you will support them too.

Say Hi to Tracey and the team and make sure you let them know you are staying at Fraser Coast RV Park.  They also cook pizza’s on Thursday, Friday and Saturday night.

The River Heads Cafe have always supported our business and we like to pay-it-forward by sending guests there to enjoy a spot of lunch if they are running too early for their 2pm check-in time.  Pop in and say hello to Mark at the River Heads Pharmacy too.

The River Heads Hall across the road also do dinner on Friday nights Feb-Nov from 5:30pm.  Great food with reasonably priced drinks.

There are so many places to explore and things to do on the Fraser Coast.

Maryborough is only 30 minutes drive with a rich history to explore.

You can hire a boat and explore our pristine waterways, explore the reef or go scuba diving, including exploring the wreck of the HMAS Torbrook.

For the kids there is bowling, putt putt, golf driving range, super big swings and playground at Seafront oval and then of course there is the wetside waterpark.  You can fish from the long jetty at Urangan and explore the local markets.

Hervey Bay has lots of shops on offer with plenty of second hand op shops with a wide range of quality second hand items.

The museum is another great spot to explore with plenty to see and do.

Brooklyn House is a short drive to Howard which has an amazing drapery store if you like searching for unique fabrics.

With all this and so many dining options, playgrounds for the children and dog friendly beaches on offer, the Fraser Coast has something for everyone.
